Born on Long Island in New York, Mike moved to Somerset County, Maryland as a young child. He attended Somerset County Public Schools where is his Mother Peggy Haase was a counselor. After graduating from Crisfield High School Mike furtherd his education at Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in Political Science.

Mike resides in Crisfield, Maryland with his wife Carolyn and their three children Kaitlyn, Alex, and Noah. Mike is a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Crisfield and spends his spare time restoring a historic home in Crisfield.
